Overview:

Avatar was released to theatres on Dec. 18, 2009 with high anticipation stemming from: the director of popular films from the past (Titanic, The Terminator) James Cameron, the total cost spent on making this 3D movie (3 MILLION +; the most expensive movie EVER), and it has also been made into a game for Xbox 360.

On Dec. 26, 2009 at the Eglinton Town Centre Theatre Avatar was in such high demand that it sold out of the 2:00pm time slot and had to purchase tickets for the 3pm time slot which also sold out. This movie was fun and emotional to watch.

The 3D effect was great! It looked and felt like people and things were floating right in front of your face. It was as if you were a part of the movie too. At the end people took the time to clap (most of which where for the 3D graphic effects that went with the story line).

Avatar is about a futuristic army who make avatars in Na'vi form to communicate with the Pandora natives- Na'vi- holding the only land left in the year: 2154. When one of the head scientist’s die they need a replacement scientist to finish the mission. The best suited is Jake Scully (Sam Worthington) “everyday” guy paralyzed from the waist down. His job is to regain the trust of the native people. Although, he is given another secret job to find out what will entice or make them leave their hometree, so the humans can take over.

Jake gets into a scientific machine that transforms him into Na’vi form. Jake has tasks when he enters their world, than comes back to tell his superiors his findings and eat; he does this through out the film. Accomplishing trust from the Na’vi tribe by falling in love with Neytiri (Zoë Saldaña) the princess of Pandora and being welcomed as a tribe member. Emotionally torn he doesn’t know what to do when the army wants to tear down Na’vi hometree. Once war as been started and great sadness and confusion overwhelmed the Na’vi. Jake and the rest of the science crew decided to go against their own and help the Na’vi fight back against the army to save Pandora and the Na’vi Natives.
