Debuting “Pizzle Poppin”
Interviewee: S ToDa Pizzle AKA Silent Poet
S ToDa Pizzle AKA Silent Poet is a guy who has always been involved in the Hip Hop culture but didn’t decide to take his talents serious ‘till recently. Debuting a new mixtape, “Pizzle Poppin” releasing on Toronto’s famous Caribana weekend (July 29- Aug. 1, 2010). He likes to: battle rap, have fun, make music, and perform! S ToDa Pizzle has been doing shows and has more planned for the near future, so try and get out to some of his shows when he does perform. Find out more about S ToDa Pizzle, his pursuits, and his point of view on Hip Hop- here by reading the interview brought to you by HOOKEDUPB:
S ToDa Pizzle; was that name inspired by Snoop Dog?
No, no, no. Not at all, actually it comes from my original name: Silent Poet! I didn’t like it- people know me by that name (Silent Poet); to me it’s only so-so! So I changed it up to: S Pizzle AKA S ToDa Pizzle, but I use both names (Silent Poet & S Pizzle), either or are fine!
What are some of the things you have done as a Toronto Rapper (calab’s, videos, ‘tapes ect) so far?
Ah, well my CD (mixtape) suppose to come out hopefully some time this week or at least by Carabana. Its all done- I did it all myself!
I really don’t have videos, well I have one but it’s a low budget video- it’s not the greatest, just something for the people.
Callabo’s not really I like to keep in the fam uno…I’d rather work with people I know- at the end of the day, those are the people that will have your back and look out for you.
How was the Indie Showcase on July 24th @ the Central, that you performed at?
Basically, it’s a showcase for indie artists to go up on stage. There was about 10- 15 artists there that night, and I was one of them. It was nuts- everyone was drunk, so that could have helped (lol). Canadian Indie Movement say: the key to success is SUPPORT! So if nobody comes or cant sell tickets for the show- nobody wants to listen to you (well people will listen but not at the show). If the all ready people know you, they know the music. Lots of my people showed so that’s what made it good for me! Also, I’m doing another show Aug. 5, 2010 @ 67 Richmond St. E- it should be nice!
What track(s) did you perform at the show?
I did three songs:
- “I’m a Warrior”
- “Put That Work In”
- “Scooping Brauds”
“Plenty Money Freestyle” is one of the latest tracks put up on your Facebook account why did you pick that one to upload?
Ah, I picked that one cause it’s a known beat! Just wanted people to see what I am doing- it’s a promo thing, an attention grabber! On the mixtape there are more beats that people haven’t heard before (underground beats). I did it in my own way sorta flip it uno. I should be uploading more soon. Right now I’m kinda just chilling back…
What are the details on the mixtape you are working on?
It’s out at the end of the week (July 30- 31, 2010).
I got about five features on the mixtape all of them are from Toronto. There’s: Mystery he’s kinda like a Reggae artist, Baptist, Trophy, my boy Spooks, and this girl named Naughty. I wasn’t really trying to have too many features this will be my first mixtape; I like to keep it in the fam!
Will there be a theme to the mixtape?
Every song on the mixtape is all about things that have happened to me! So it’s: all real! I like to make music, so I might as well make songs about my experiences.
Have you ever done battle raps or beat boxing back in the day?
Ya, I do some battle raps still. I used to always write battle raps, when I wasn’t on the tip of making songs. So I kind of came up with battle raps. I could still do it today but not my thing right now, but battle rappers are the guys getting signed. Like: Freeway, Jay Mills, and Cassidy – the list goes on! Cause I guess they can be ghostwriters, that makes me think that I should get back into it. Don’t be surprised if you see me battle people in the future…
What do you feel the pros and cons are regarding the Hip Hop scene as a whole?
Pro-
There’s a lot of talent in Toronto, The Toronto Scene- it’s on the rise! Before, like 10 years ago the scene want too big but now there’s all kinds of guys doing it.
Con-
There’s a lot of Haters in Toronto! But if you don’t have haters you must doing something wrong! So the good comes with the bad I guess, everybody is different- some people like the stuff, and some don’t like it!
Jay- Z, Diddy, or Lil Wayne?
Basically, I respect every artist in their own way ‘cuz they all have done a lot for the Hip Hop scene but Diddy and Lil' Wayne have things they done that I’m not too fond about so imma have to go with the Jigga Man!
Last Comments?
Basically the mixtape is called: “Pizzle Poppin”!! Um, hopefully i will be dropping another one by the end of the year. Other than that I have a lot of shows coming up and a radio show interview in London Ontario in August.
