Who’s the King of the Industry?
Like something you’ve never been to before, not for the quiet and shy- this show had a heavy, loud and wild vibe! True hip hop that proves hip hop is not dead; “32 producers and only
one winner” (Sound Supremacy). The EL MOCAMBO was packed with people and there were many MC’s in the house that night, and also had quest performances by Luu Breeze and
Focus. This show had endless excitement caused by the best beatmakers, judged by the recognized and experienced: RIC NOTES, GIGS, and BOI-1DA. The host of the night was
Bozack Morris who’s got tons of charisma!
Mista Magic had the floors shaking and tha speakers breathing on you, with his sound, who also pulled his weight all the way to last round. A next guy that rocked the house
was Big Pops, his beats are unique and the base was unexpected and powerful; he too made it as a finalist. Paul Castro seemed to shock the crowd- in a good way- with is talent
becoming more confident as he picked up wins. There was a TIE betweenBurd and Madloops; 100 bucks put on the stage, to bet on the win-Madloops put tha money in his pocket!
Vega was a name being called out by the crowd, who also showed promise in his battles. Cronos had live beats and got wild when the beats played and the crowd roared. The show was
HYPE, big up’s to all the beatmakers that showed. By the last hours, the room was full of anticipation to see who would walk home with the grand prize and respect of the industry.
Big Pops took home the Final prize of:

Dancing on the Street
The day started off with performances by kids dance teams doing hip hop, pop, and break dancing. There was lip sinking by kids on stage, and singing. Jamie came to the
festival to sing children’s songs and tell jokes. Alison a Caribbean children’s singer performed “Cherry hill”, and also had the audience do the limbo. There were tables set up to sell and
promote products/ services. MASTERPLAN 89.5FM Radio came to do a “mix tape workshop” to teach people how to be a DJ, there was a bouncy tent for kids, a film festival, and crafts.
At the end of the night people were asked to go inside the community centre to see more performances. First on stage was the Soniks band, Soca karaoke singers who were really
entertaining; they had babies, Moms and Dads dancing...” five cent, ten cent”... Stolen From Africa did a performance and a free style quoting Led Zeppelin within. Trish came
through heavy with dancers and gave a flawless performance. ReLZ did his tune called “Need a Tissue” that kept peoples attention. Angerville was in the house and did their tracks:
Its Angerville, Break the Law, and Dear Dad. The Host (Jay Douglas) decided to hold an exclusive unexpected freestyle for the audience which included: Angerville, ReLZ, Royce
Birth, and Jay Douglas; an unforgettable moment!
The Masaryk Community Centre held an interactive day, in marking the beginning of a new tradition- the Parkdale Youth Festival. It was a day the sun was shining and people

“Unity Community together forever” (promo flyer)
A hood BBQ held in Parma Courts, the day was hot and the MC line up was crazy! The BBQ was held to honor a fallen soldier: Blitz a former member of Hoodgang (Music Group) from Parma Courts. The scenery was an open field surrounded by buildings, and the music could be herd from Sak’s (a local Store).
The stage was blessed by many many talented men and women, some who were also seen at the “Stop The Violence BBQ” held in Flemo Park on July 26, 08. Ladies first; Keke Luv is a beautiful young MC who really did sum sweet accapella on stage with Black City and Cardigan Gang. Another female artist was Empress Lyrics who is an up ‘n coming reggae singer who wants to empower women with her music. Continuing on, highly respected Jah Family from the West end of Toronto was there to pass on wise words to the kids with their Rasta style music.Trinity Chris and Tre Nice brought intensity to the stage, Trinity performed: “Bun A Tight Pants”. Donmillion</B> was there to perform “Represent Your Set”; an underground hit. JB GCP, Tommy Spitz and RANDOM ACT came on stage and did one of their CLASSIC tracks “What You Need”. Hoodgang performed through out the day, and also stopped for moment of silence for Blits.
Free food/drinks, a gladiator game, face painting, and the bouncy tent to show the kids of Parma and their guests that they have respect for their community. It was a full day event which featured Toronto’s Finest Artists, and had an action packed dance show, performed by the talented Baby Boy Dance Crew. Fire on Stage
Support your country, support underground music, to give artists the recognition they deserve. The 4th Toronto Independent Music Awards was held at the Phoenix Concert Theater July
31. It was a professional setup with newly famous and “up and coming” there to show support and to network for future opportunities. There were many performances by 2007 and 2008 nominees, and
the host of the night was Sean Ward.
The press was every where you looked, trying to snap a shot of the hard working artists. Dame, an alternative band that was nominated for Best Alternative and Best Song won
both awards and performed on stage with confidence, and strength, while belting her song Intervention. Marshall Dane, nominated for Best Live Electric was another unforgettable presence
on stage, by interacting with his whole band while playing; it was exciting. Flavashop Inc. presented the audience with many creative underground hip hop artists like, Luke “Walker” Green, Human
Record (nominated for Best Live Urban), Jersey, and Symmetry who all showed that Toronto has talent. Japhy Ryder won Best Adult Contemporary, and while playing on stage the drummer lit the “hi-
hats” on fire. there were many other memerble performances too.
The night was packed with action and entertainment the artists worked hard to get here and each person is unique in their talents. Before the show was over I met the winners of Best
Young Song Writer(s), Corporate Saturday who are friendly and eager to pursue their dreams. The night was a success and it was networking heaven for the entertainment industry. “Once you got
skills, than you got skills and that’s what’s real” a quote from Flavashop Inc.
There were nominations for the following categories: best jazz, best blues, best live acoustic, best live electric, best live urban, best urban, best rap, best pop, best alternative
rock, best indie rock, best metal, best punk, best country, best folk, best adult contemporary, best world, best out of province, best USA, best international, best song, and best young
songwriter(s).
