Trinity Chris- Mixtape Review: Big Man Tings
When Canadian Reggae is mentioned most say that it does not feel like “home” and that you can only get “real reggae” in Jamaica. Canadian Ambassador of Reggae- Trinity Chris has put together a mixtape that mixes both the best of Jamaican and Canadian music together. Featuring some of the best remixes with Jamaica’s most popular celebrities and collaborations with Canada’s finest hustlers. It is the 37th Vol. and mixed by: DJ CROWD; The mixtape busts 5 bullets for gangtsa brilliance.
Be be cah cah… be be cah…Trinity Chris has a track called THE WINNER with Vybz Kartel, who says “Trinity- noting ya have to gimme fi dis” which makes you want to get up and experience high energy level that Trinity exerts in his music and performances. On the CD he does a remix of Mavado’s hit track I’m So Special, sending the message that you should enjoy reggae music. Big Man Tings has a softer side; regarding women in the Brick and Lace (signed to Akon’s label) remix Never, Never saying: “tha simple tings in life the girl’s dem like”! Again, a slower and sweet vibe; track 16 features Akon Pslams showing his versatility in musical expression.

Underground Industry- Get on The iPod
In the past two years Canadian artists have finally got fed up with being compared to the United States and decided to push forward with our unique styles. Instead of getting signed to a label
that has increased the number of people listening to underground music particularly in the Hip Hop and Jazz genres found in statistics Canada reports. With this comes higher numbers of artists
joining the market now with more hope for success and more small business opening to contribute to this growing trend. Use of the internet has made it easier to communicate on a large scale with
networking communities and social communities making target market reachable at a low cost.
There are many different talents in the underground industry and that number continues to grow. It is now the job of the individual/ group to stand out against the rest of the
competition. Everyone has their own strategies to accomplish goals but in order to last there are a few things to keep in mind:
Be an Individual
Promoting Talents
Benchmarking
Creating Partnerships
Travel
Track and Evaluate Numbers
2006 Canadian statistics show that the number of Hip Hop and Jazz album sales were the only genres to grow while other genres such as rock, country, and children’s music fell. This
says that more Canadians are listening to hip hop and jazz music and this trend is not likely to stop. Most of us can already tell by the increase number of events held for and by underground
artists and businesses, along with artists entering the industry. Further more industry giants such as Akon, Gene Simons, and Lil Wayne have shown support in our independent movement coming to
Canada to get new fresh talent; a big change from the past where Canadians pretty much had to go to the States.
When it comes to sales promotions it is fact that most independent crusaders use the internet to do so; most popular Facebook and Myspace more many reasons. First comes the talent to
create and than the ability to push it in the right direction. If you promote your selves in an organized fashion it is much easier to hit a “Bulls Eye” on your goal. Anyone can have a Myspace or
Facebook along with thousands of E- friends, but this not mean that you are getting anywhere due to the “noise” (interruptions in communications) caused by “everyone” doing similar projects. Some
of the most accomplished (Kardi, JB GCP, Drake, Choclair, ect) are on top of their game because of hard work and it took them longer then two years to get this far and more than just internet
appearances. The underground industry is poppin and growing; to be noticed: take calculated risk or risk being left in the dust.

Double Take
Sikadime Has been on his hustle since elementary school and feels he has been
the most slept on rapper. He has traveled around from Toronto, Niagara Falls, and L.A. His group got signed to “Death Row Underground a subsidiary of Death Row Records” (explained
in his myspace bio) for only a short time. At the moment he is in Niagara Falls and a runner up for 6 nominations at the Niagara Music Awards! Constantly on the move he came to Toronto to
tell us about his nominations, read on and find out who is getting greedy…
How does it feel to be nominated for 6 awards?
Feels good; finally some recognition. Shamon and Dan-e-o were featured on “Strong Hold” (2007 single) , one of the tracks that is up for a nomination. I look
up to those guys like role models. It's an honor to be nominated on a track with them.
How did you get nominated for the awards (votes, hits, requests)?
- I did 6 admissions; this year is gonna be like the Juno’s
- Rogers is sponsoring it, and I met with the
committee
- Online voting for the Peoples Choice Award
Have you had any nominations before?
No…lol if it counts…I got an “ Outstanding Student Award” in elementary school; me and a few guys wanted to get out of doing a performance, by doing a Christmas rap (we didn’t
think that the teachers would like “rap” part)! The teachers ended up liking the song, so we performed it!
What do you think the secret ingredient is/ was regarding the nominations (track/ video)?
- Rejuvenated (CD) is doing good
- Ayatollah ( producer) says Rejuvenated is the
realest album
- I appeal to everyone; if you like the music, you like the music. if you don’t, then you don’t!
Which award are you hoping to get: Original Song of the Year, Original Band/ Artist of the year, Album of the Year, Hip Hop Group/ Artist
of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and People’s Choice Award?
I’m gonna be greedy and say all 6!
How has your life changed since the nominations?
Cool feeling; it’s only the second annual, so I’m coming in on the second one! Hope I win them all. Maybe next year ill be up for ten, I don’t know.
Who else is doing their thing in Niagara Region that you know of?
Los Tha Don, Jeanyus Studios, Team Offense, KAC Himself, Femapco, Produece, Fancy, Verbal, Hospitals, Rsonal, Moofreak, Apokalypse, and Aye Druw ect.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Be on the look out for Carpe Noctem a new album I’ve been working on for the past few years.
