Rated Next Out of Alaska

Mannish Da Jula [Interview]

Introducing Mannish Da Jula who hip hops all over the place from Alaska, to LA, to Canada? Well he can’t come to Canada at the moment, but he can still gain fans over the Internet. A Hardcore Rapper, who can also create commercial records, listens to a variety of genres: R&B, Soul, Rock, and even House music. Hearing Mannish Da Jula- “About My Business” the music video on Youtube, and pressing play more than twice- has you thinking: “he’s good”. Da Jula is someone who has been through a lot it shows through the conviction in his voice when he spits not to mention confident presentation.  Making nothing but progress over the years is obvious on his Youtube channel: www.youtube.com/committee907. Accomplishing it all by building relationships, increasing market efforts, and using Twitter, all which increases his viewers! His music is on iTunes, and his website has older mixtapes for free download plus you can listen to his single: “Lil’ Mama”. HOOKEDUPB, and Mannish Da Jula connected, and completed an interview by phone; find out more by reading the interview below:

Your bio says you have been moving back and forth from the United States to Alaska, where are you at now?

Anchorage Alaska- I’m always going back, and forth.

What’s the underground scene like there (nightlife, studios, producers)?

It’s growing right now everybody real hungry nothing real big though! It’s like Canada. I don’t how record sales are down there maybe y’all selling thousands of copies I don’t know; ‘cause I know you guys have like a million rappers.

What do you think about Toronto’s music scene, or are you familiar with Toronto’s music scene at all?

Not really I don’t know any Canadian rappers, but I see a lot of guys on WorldStarhiphop.com one in particular is rapper Belly!?

Is “Playboi Muzik” a label, brand, or slogan?

It’s a label, brand, and slogan. Ya, its everything- it’s a whole movement the whole player shit is coming back to life. Playboi Muzik is for cool people; if you’re cool you’ll like the music! Everybody has a little player in them; but also life is a game and we are all players trying to get knowledge and maintain so one day we can teach the youth. It’s about making good music that people can relate to.

You seem to have been making an upward progression regarding your music over the years, what do you credit to that other than your talent? (Videos, performances, collaborations, EST.)

I had to get support; I started meeting people the same as me (status) or higher to make connections. I met a bunch of guys out in New York, and L.A. in LA I met a producer guy, and built a business relationship with him- you have to build relationships! Buying beats is better than leasing beats… They say you have to know somebody to get somewhere.

In LA everybody says their a Producer, DJ, Rapper…but when I contacted them to put something together, “like lets get in the studio or mix and master”, but they fakin’, they’re not doing anything. It’s better to ‘know someone, but if I want to get something done I do it myself- with the help of my connections I know all kinds of people I gotta credit them.

I got some nice production- real nice production. The right producers get your music out. When I talk to producers we talk about how we gonna get the music out, can I get it mixed and mastered, I’ll even buy 3, 4, or 5 beats- and they think this guys serious! Also get: a portfolio, magazine placements, features, music on iTunes- you have to get a catalog together.

Can you tell us about any new projects that you have in the works now or in the future?

I got the EP or maybe a mixtape (I’m not sure yet) “All or Nothing”. Its going to have all the work I’ve been working on for the past couple years; I started putting some of it up on Youtube. I’m not going to put out an album until I get more fans. Before I release an album I want to make sure it’s my best work with good producers; all the songs will have hooks I them- 16 bars than a hook. I don’t want my EP to be like a mixtape; no freestyles, leased beats, no dark, and creepy stuff- it will have some commercial tracks on it.

How did you persuade people to make the transformation from getting your music free to buying it from iTunes, as we all know that is a challenge for most up n coming artists to do?

We are still working on that because it's not easy to sell your music on itunes without a gimmick, so we're basically building a brand of ourselves which is Playboi Muzik.

How well did the “Mannish Dat Jula Presents, Money is The Object” mixtape downloads do compared to the views of uploaded Youtube tracks off the same mixtape?

That mixtape was free download stuff. I don’t know how many downloads either- wasn’t really many it was on Z Share.  My second mixtape came out after that called “Da Pure” it had more downloads than "Money is the object" and its was promoted by DJ Ames on different sites and blogs too.

Tells us about why you think which networking site is the “new” Myspace: Facebook or Twitter?

I don’t know, I don’t be on Facebook, but I do be on Twitter! I don’t know what’s up with Facebook. I don’t really follow the trends; people on there are just fans rappers following rappers. A friend told me I should get on Facebook to promote my music… Myspace was good now its just machines! I was just using my Myspace, but a friend said I have to get a website, because: “you never know when Myspace will close down”.  I got a website, just got it started, and I’m having more fun wit the website. I think if you are a rapper you have to have a website. If you don’t, I don’t think your taking it serious. Reverbnation is trying to be like Myspace; I don’t know there are a lot of rappers on there- there’s lots of rappers all over the world!

Last comments/or shout outs?

I gotta give a shout out to the whole NORTH, and the whole WEST!!!  Everybody who's supporting the Playboi Muzik movement big ups, my whole team, all the sexy lil mamas out there.  My producers T-Lace, Auditory, K-Salaam & Beatnick, Rawbeatzz, Slimmkeys, and Marco Blyze.  HOOKEDUPB, UHOOKED I appreciate the love and also free my niggas Soapy, China, and Woo we out chea 100!

World News March 2011 [Libya, Japan, #SuperMoon, Haiti, Charlie Sheen]

Libya

Libyan leader Muammar el-Qaddafi didn’t approve of Libyans holding peaceful protests for freedom against his command. Qaddafi started using violent action to silence his own people. Forcefully taking over many parts of Libya, and killing thousands of people along the way. Internationally, citizens became concerned about why it was taking so long for the American military or government to act to put an end to the killings of Libyan people. Finally the The United Nations Security Counsel got involved on March 19, 2011 to stop the massive killings by use of military action. Although they didn’t necessarily ask Muammar el-Qaddafi to stand down as Libyan leader, only asked him to stop the brutality; sparking another public argument over the lack of humanitarian efforts for the long term.

Japan

On March 11, 2011 Japan had an 8.9 earthquake followed by a massive tsunami hit Japanese Port of Sandai that killed thousands of people- leaving just as many homeless. At the same time the power of the tsunami wrecked the nuclear plant causing it to get severely damaged leaking nuclear matter into the air, and water. To maintain, clean up, and rebuilding will be a challenge for Japan.

Many musicians wanted to help out the disaster relief by doing different things to encourage people to donate to Japan; here is a short list:

*Lady Gaga with the fastest response time created “We Pray For Japan” bracelets for purchase with all proceeds going to help the people in Japan.

*Ne-Yo did some physical charity in Japan, and has made exclusive “Spread Love through Music” Tee Shirts for purchase; all proceeds go to Japan relief.

*Global Music Effort launches“Song For Japan” CD that has all the recent and popular names with 38 hit songs in total. A range of big names like: Rihanna,Bon Jovi, & Ne- Yo EST. All proceeds go the Japanese Red Cross Society.

#SuperMoon

We had a super moon on the night of March 19, 2011; it is 30% brighter than the last one in 2005. It gets the name super moon for fullness or brightness of the moon on this night compared to the every day shine of the moon. Overall the moon is closer to the earth than usual.

Haiti

Since the earthquake in Haiti on Jan. 12, 2010 the Haitian people have been trying to rebuild the country; currently Haitian political champagnes have been taking place in hopes of creating change through a new president. Wyclef himself originally wanted to run for Haitian President last summer, although the government denied his eligibility. Since, Wyclef Jean (musician/ humanitarian) decided to support Michel Martelly in his efforts to run for President of Haiti. During the month of March 2011 there was a lot of updates online on Michel Martelly’s progress. The pictures posted on Wyclef’s Facebook page indicate that Mickey Martelly (@presidnetmickey) has a large following of supporters, as the crowds are massive.  On April 1, 2011 Wyclef Jean’s Facebook page stated that the current pole is as follows:

Wyclef

HAITI UPDATE: Latest election polls 69.74 % @presidnetmickey / 30.26% Manigat (83.7% tabulated)

Charlie Sheen

…”Winning. DUH”!!

They Be Stuntin’ in Those F.C.F Jackets [Interview]

Newly established Family Comes First (F.C.F)Enterprise ranging with members from the West (from Jane and finch) to East (Malvern) areas of Toronto consisting of many different members, although:  C.E.O- Star Dat Prince, V.P- Empress, & Artist- Helloworld Sam (The Environmentalist) were the members who took part in the interview presented today. F.C.F is about combining culture, and life experiences to build a better tomorrow for family, and friends alike through music, and the arts. Music has always been a major part of their lives, just having fun with friends, and their community started about ten years ago. Star Dat Prince started writing, rapping, and making Youtube videos about five years ago. Now the group is ready to take it all to the next level by aggressively marketing the F.C.F brand.  What stands out most about F.C.F is their drive to obtain their dreams, passion for the streets, and their ever so cocky characters. Read the full interview below (questions answered as group):

Is there a pacific message in your music you want to get out to your listeners?

Certain songs we do talk about violence, but its only certain struggles we try and put a positive message in; it’s the screw face city! F.C.F movement (clothing line, label) crossing boundaries together: cultures, colors, and different areas that’s why we say F.C.F (Family Comes First). At the end of the day it’s like we all one big family (group/society). This is just the beginning we’re just starting, we’re here, we’re here to stay, as long as the earth is spinning.

Tell us a little bit why that is?

‘Cause we all from different areas, different types of lives, different parents, and stuff! We are all different colors- we’re all the same in the end. Trying to see past from where we been- a new look from where we’ve been; we wouldn’t be who we are if you haven’t been through struggle. We take pride in it, and that’s our goal!

Can you tell us about F.C.F (Family Comes First)?

We’re trying to put together: a clothing line, music label, modeling company, with promotion and distribution helping everyone everywhere! F.C.F is about helping everyone its kind of like a unity, so we run as a family.

Where does your passion for music come from?

Life experiences, what we seen, on the news, past, present, and future- that’s what where it comes from! I mean look when 50 Cent came out everyone couldn’t get over the fact that he wasn’t going to make it, and now look at him!

What will/have you change(d) from lasts year to make this year more progressive?

Me (Star Dat Prince) as an artist started putting out positive music, started reaching to other artists. I realized artists started to say: “move forward make it better”. To change the world you have to change your self first!

What are some of the things you look forward to regarding you music?

Aside from reaching dreams; knowing that we made an impact, and inspired families! Were letting people know: you can do what, you want to do. Create something you can give back. With the recession reduces the thought that the struggles we going through- break bread, and have a good time. Follow tradition- we’re leaders!

Can you tell us about the live performance you did, recently posted on Youtube?

That was at Black Swan it was the fallen soldiers event…Uncle B-no (FCF MANAGER/ CEO OF CMA ENTERTAINMENT) lost his nephew recently…we’re also putting together a mixtape for him (R.I.P).

There was a show before that at the lambadina, but the footage still needs to be put up- we will be posting it soon. And are depute performance Tuesday Feb 9Th at York university Rise and shine event footage can be found at jane-finch.com a upcoming show on Tuesday (March 29, 2011) at the Smiling Buddha as well. We like to create stuff so we have our own shows.

You have about 30 Youtube videos on you channel; do you get hype to make music during “jam sessions” with friends?

Some days we get together- studio, clubs, home, biggest time is when we’re: smoking, drinking, partying. We put on a beat, and everyone starts doing his or her thing. The studio is strictly for mixtapes and albums. We don’t battle, we hit the gas and go we running over everything- so no battles! The streets is on the street, we live it before you can say it- we out here!

What is your favorite single or album you listen to at home?

Heartless G, Hustlers Poem, Mayham Morearty, K Koke, Certified Cash , Max B, 2Pac, Biggie Smalls, Styles P, Drake, 50Cent, Outcast, Three 6 Mafia, M.O.P, Everybody from F.C.F! and All the Real Toronto Artist Doing They Thing

Any shout outs/or last comments?

Jane strip- wa pop we out here

Malvern – big up to all the hoods but lets all unite

Vp Strip – u already know what it is we aint gotta say no names

All the tdot rappers out there trynna do their thing
